About Certina
1888 brothers Adolf and Alfred Kurth in Grenchen, Switzerland, initially making watch parts, then complete watches under the name "Grana" (Latin for Grenchen). They registered "Certina" (from Latin certus, "sure") in 1939, later adopting it fully, building a reputation for robust, precise timepieces with innovations like the DS (Double Security) Concept in 1959, tested in extreme environments like underwater projects and Mount Everest, and becoming part of the Swatch Group in 1983.
