Found as a Parisian jewelry house in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, but the brand became a watchmaking pioneer when Louis Cartier designed the first modern wristwatch, the Santos, for aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1904, allowing him to check time while flying.
