This $5000 Luxury Watch is More Complex Than a Mercedes AMG

We Put a Mercedes-AMG Engine Against an IWC Watch Movement. The Winner Will Shock You.

One costs $150,000 and takes 8-10 hours to hand-build. The other costs $5,000 and takes 25+ hours to assemble. Both are built by a single craftsperson who signs their work. Both come from the same partnership between IWC and Mercedes-AMG.

So which one has better engineering? We ran the numbers. The answer isn't what you think.

Round 1: Precision (The Knockout Punch)

Mercedes-AMG 4.0L V8 Engine:

Why? Because installing a balance wheel with a hairspring thinner than a human hair can take an experienced watchmaker over an hour of microscopic adjustment. One sneeze destroys the entire sub-assembly.
